Climate Policy

The main goal of current climate policy is to reduce CO2 emissions and bring a halt to global warming. The member companies of swisselectric already make a contribution to climate-neutral electricity production, and are also prepared to work towards a reliable, cost-effective and sustainable supply of electricity in Switzerland in the future. To this end they are aiming to invest CHF 30 billion between now and 2035. swisselectric expects the Federal Council to create the conditions that will enable such investments to bear fruit. These boundary conditions must be internationally harmonised and must not disadvantage electricity production in Switzerland. Consequently the aims of climate policy must also be closely linked to international developments. Climate policy will not be helped if Switzerland has to go it alone. From 2012, Switzerland is planning to further reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, promote lower-emission technologies and secure funding for its climate policy. swisselectric supports the Federal Council's indirect counterproposal (reform of the CO2 law) to the "People's initiative for a healthy climate" (Climate Initiative).
